An Invitation That Saved a Mother's Life

Corinna approached our receptionist at 11:40am on February 16, 1998. She came to apply for utility assistance. She was told that we were unable to offer utility assistance and was offered information and referrals to help her obtain the help she needed. Corrina was about to leave when she heard the invitation to attend the Chapel service. The Spirit of God urged her to "Come unto Me". She stood there for a few moments thinking about her life and her nine-year-old daughter, Kayla. She then decided to join in the worship service - a decision which saved her life.
God spoke to Corinna through the witness of Robert Hockin and stayed after the service for a time of prayer. During prayer the story of childhood sexual abuse, family rejection and her recent stay in a homeless shelter poured out in a flood of remorse and feelings of failure. The prayer time and Robert's counsel ultimately led to the rededication of her life to God and the release of years of resentment and emotional pain. Our Chaplain was called in for continued counseling which uncovered many layers of pain which had never been opened to the healing grace of God.
God's love was evident as they all continued in prayer together. Where would all this lead? What was she to do from here? She then began to explain why she was unable to work. Her doctor told her that she needed a hysterectomy to remove the tumors on her uterus and surgery to repair her ruptured bladder and intestine.
Corinna's pain was intense as she sat there with poison invading her body. Her pain, however, was not her greatest concern. She was most concerned about not having someone to look after Kayla if she went into the hospital. Corinna would surely die without the surgery, but what was she to do?
Corinna is alive. She is working. She had her surgery on February 19, just three days after coming to see us. Our Chaplain made arrangements for the care of Kayla. Heidi and Terrance took Kayla into their home. They even took her to a Bible study group at West Tulsa UMC, where Corinna and Kayla now attend. Corinna is now in a new home with new friends. The Body of Christ at its best has been restoring life.
An invitation given and recieved saved a mother's life. Thanks be to God! We are humbled and grateful to have had a part in God's saving work in Corinna's life. As you read this webpage you will find opportunities to be the one God will use to offer the love and grace which gives life. We hope you will prayerfully consider what God has prepared for you.
