SNAP Challenge

Families across the US live only on SNAP (formerly “food stamps”) benefits for their food each month. That benefit, on average, is $1.50 per person per meal. The SNAP Challenge encourages those of us who are not receiving SNAP benefits to limit our food budget to that amount for a set period of time to experience what it is like to be hungry, just like our neighbors. GROW: Food. Justice. Planet.

Try the GROW Method: A brand new way of thinking about food – the way we buy, prepare, and eat it.

Why care about food justice?
One in seven people goes to bed hungry every night. Not because there isn’t enough food, but because of deep imbalances in access to resources like fertile land and water.

What Can you do Try:
Oxfam’s GROW campaign which aims to build a better food system: one that sustainably feeds a growing population (estimated to reach nine billion by 2050) and empowers poor people to earn a living, feed their families, and thrive.
